Sue Center can be a multi-lingual environment. These languages are currently available:
In the Sue Center Configuration program there is a Language tab. It is here where you choose the language of the interface (menus, prompts, responses, etc) and also which word lists you want available. You may, for example, want the interface to be in Spanish but wish to be able to reply to email that you get in English or French.Croatian Dutch English French German Spanish
When there are multiple word lists available you will have a command on the right labeled 'Lang'. Choosing this will cycle through the languages you have chosen.
You can also configure which text-to-speech voice you want to use for each language. Several companies provide high quality voices - cepstral.com is one.
When you choose Speak in the Browse area the voice used is the one of the current wordlist.
A very cool feature is Translation of one language to another. This is machine translation so is somewhat literal and not that natural but it can often be a good starting point. Sue Center leverages the translation service at google.com.
Abbreviations are used to initiate the translation. For example, to translate text from English to Spanish we need to define an abbreviation, say, TS, to be:
EN is for English. ES is for Español. The RE is for replace. With this abbreviation in place you do this:EN'ES'RE
The underscore above _ is actually a space - the way the abbreviation (any abbreviation) is invoked. When the space is input the text before it in the message area is sent to translate.google.com and translated from English to Spanish. The translated text will replace 'Hello my friend' resulting in:Hello my friend. TS_
These translation abbreviations have 3 or 4 parts (separated by single quotes) with this syntax:Hola mi amigo.
The source and target languages are the standard two letter code for the language:SourceLanguage ' TargetLanguage ' RE|AP [ 'SP ]
RE above is for replace. AP is for append. If TE is an abbreviation for:DE - German (Deutsch) EN - English ES - Spanish (Español) FR - French NL - Dutch HR - Croatian
Then this:ES'EN'AP
Will result in:Hola mi amigo. TE_
The translated text is appended to the source text. These abbreviations can also have 'SP at the end. This means that the text will be spoken after translation.Hola mi amigo. Hello my friend.
If T is an abbreviation for:
Then with this in the message area:EN'ES'AP'SP
We will have:Hello my friend. How are you? T_
The first line will be read with the English voice and the second with the Spanish voice.Hello my friend. How are you? Hola mi amigo. ¿Cómo está usted?
