In 1978 Barbara's monumental textile art piece Legs was commissioned and installed in the Embarcadero BART station. 36 years later in 2014 it was removed by BART at an expense of $300,000 and has been in a Woodland storage facility since (at great expense to Barbara). See the stories that appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle and KQED. Some clever person started a Twitter account named BartMacrame where the sculpture itself would tweet its feelings!
Legs was taken to its final resting place in the Yolo County Landfill on September 28, 2022 by Lightning Demolition. Here's a video of the expert extraction and delivery – for a bargain price of $2,000.
